Journalist 

My name is Andrew Gitto and I am a Magazine, News, and Digital Journalism major at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. In my experiences, I have organized and conducted interviews, written and edited articles for publications, analyzed data, and used various tools to create media.

My Experiences

Sideline Updates, Creator, Social Media Manager | May 2024-present

Founded sports reporting X/Twitter account. Conducted sports data research to create social media posts. Designed graphics and other types of media to post in appropriate media formats. Analyzed trends in social media posts to find content with the highest engagement.

The Western Journal, Copy Editor, Remote | May 2023-September 2023

Edited articles for proper grammar, AP Style, and legitimacy. Used WordPress to edit articles and Canva to crop pictures to the proper resolution. Attended company meetings and editor meetings to discuss story ideas and outlooks for the month.

The Daily Orange, Writer, Syracuse, NY | January 2023-May 2023

Wrote feature pieces for high school athletes in the Central New York area. Conducted interviews with sources for articles. Attended meetings both to discuss story pitches and have articles checked over.

Reporting, Syracuse, NY | September 2022-December 2022

Wrote articles about a selected beat (Technology) throughout the semester. Interviewed sources around Syracuse and neighboring cities and developed sources. Designed and captured multimedia elements to bolster stories. Recorded audio elements for interviews and edited audio for radio wraps.

Cross-Media News Writing, Syracuse, NY | January 2022-May 2022

Learned style, formatting, and conventions for both broadcast and online writing. Wrote leads and full stories for multiple platforms, using both AP and Broadcast styles. Discussed and wrote about current events, along with ethics and diversity issues. Learned about journalism protocols with police, courts, and other legal concepts and terminology.

Data and Digital Journalism, Syracuse, NY | January 2022-May 2022

Learned styles and the best digital practices in data journalism, online presentation, and data visualization. Studied and implemented functions and data analysis properties. Transitioned from basic HTML and CSS code-writing to implementing the functions into online news articles.
